Welcome to Bentonville, Arkansas.
As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 19,730. The small-town feel of Bentonville belies the corporate energy of Wal-Mart's International Headquarters located near the heart of the city. Established in 1836 as the first county seat in the state of Arkansas, Bentonville has maintained the historic character of the town. Within the city limits, there are 72 historical buildings and homes, including the Peel House Mansion and Historical Gardens. The Bentonville town square embraces a Civil War statue, benches, fountain, and beautiful gardens surrounded by quaint shops, and the Wal-Mart Visitors Center, Sam Walton's original variety store which now traces the origin and growth of Wal-Mart.

Nearby Bella Vista has seven championship-quality golf courses featuring 117 holes of golf, and there's a combination of five more public and private golf courses in Benton County. Water sports and camping are popular at nearby Beaver Lake. Bentonville is 5 miles from Pea Ridge National Military Park, 19 miles from Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area, and 38 miles from Eureka Springs.
Local industries produce fabricated metal products, plastic molding, electronic equipment, textiles, cutting tools, modular homes, and foods but the city is best known as the site of the corporate headquarters of Wal-Mart, Inc., the retailing giant. The Wal-Mart visitors center is located in Sam Walton's original local variety store. Peel Mansion (1875) and its gardens are on the city's outskirts.

Bentonville native wins 'Arkansas Idol'
After compliments from judges, including "fabulous job," Bentonville native Blythe McCauley, 23, was voted "Arkansas Idol" during a competition Wednesday.
Help wanted : The Bentonville Public Defender's Office is seeking another attorney.
The Public Defender's Office needs an additional attorney to handle the increasing caseload seen by that office, Jay Saxton, chief public defender for Benton County, told members of the Personnel Committee on Wednesday afternoon.
Area fireworks shows set
Bella Vista: A fireworks show is set for dusk July 3 at the Loch Lomond dam. Admission and parking are free.
